Toulouse: clothing adapted to babies’ disabilities
Since February 10, Angélique Maurat, a 29-year-old Toulouse caregiver, has launched her brand of clothing suitable for disabled children, Atypik’baby.
It was after 8 months of pregnancy, when she was pregnant two years ago, that she learned that her baby had a malformation, clubfoot. This disability requires heavy care: rehabilitation, casts, splints, etc. In fact, this malformation complicates the dressing of the newborn. Angelique discusses on forums with several mothers facing the same problem and realizes that she is not the only one having difficulty in dressing her daughter. Finding suitable clothing in the market is difficult. She then decides to make them herself. His garment looks like regular pajamas but has openings to accommodate casts and potential probes. In early February, she opened her store on Instagram. With the help of a pattern maker, they create patterns for pajamas and pants. It is a seamstress who then makes the little clothes by hand. “Beyond making life easier for parents and the comfort of little ones, above all I want to normalize disability. I would like people to be able to find beautiful products on the market with adjustments to clothing that pass through the previews”, adds does she. After months of testing, the caregiver has managed to invent outfits that can be changed according to each person’s needs. She then started selling her creations on Instagram or Facebook. Now Angelique wants to go longer. “My communication goes through university hospitals, physiotherapists or associations. And I would like to make the concept international”, projects the young entrepreneur. The price varies from 32 to 43 euros for French fabrics made of cotton (95%) and elastane to guarantee the elasticity of the garment. Angélique is now ready to launch her website, which will be released this summer with a new, even more accomplished summer collection.
