TAG Heuer Monaco x Gulf at the GPMH 2022
TAG Heuer, partner and chronometer of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, presents the Monaco x Gulf chronograph as the official watch of this 13th edition of this race dedicated to historic single-seaters and barquettes.
TAG Heuer is since 2020 the partner and chronometer of the Historic Monaco Grand Prix. The Manufacture is also the “Official Watch” of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix and the watchmaking partner of the Museum of the “Monaco Top Cars Collection”. It must be said that it has maintained very close ties with motorsport for several decades: it has been the partner of the Scuderia Ferrari in the 1970s but also of the greatest pilots such as Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton.
Monaco was “The place to be” this weekend from May 13 to 15 for the Historic Monaco Grand Prix, highlights of the classic car racing calendar. It allows you to see in action the single-seaters that marked the F1 world championship. It brings together more than 200 racing cars from the 1930s to 1985 representing 50 automotive brands. They compete in eight series during real races on the Monaco F1 circuit. This 13th edition was marked by the addition of a more modern Formula 1 field (Series G) having raced between 1981 and 1985. 2022 finally marks the 70th anniversary of the one and only Monaco Grand Prix contested outside the championship, reserved for cars in the “sports” category, type trays, and not for single-seaters.
To celebrate each edition of the GPMH, TAG Heuer unveils a limited edition watch based on the must-have monacothe watch that symbolizes motor racing, popularized by Steve McQueen in the 1971 film Le Mans. After a red version in 2020 (read here)official color of the Principality of Monaco and Italian racing cars, and a green version in 2021 (read here)color of English racing cars, the manufacture has formalized the new Gulf of Monaco on the circuit. This watch, created in collaboration with the famous sponsor, was presented at the Montres en Merveilles exhibition (read here) the last month. Gulf is an icon in the world of motor racing with its famous light blue and bright orange colors worn by the Mirage, Porsche 917 and Ford GT40 who have achieved great victories in endurance.
The TAG Heuer Monaco x Gulf therefore recover the sky blue and orange colors of the famous sponsor. Its midnight blue sunburst dial is adorned with a sporty sky blue and orange band. For the first time, it features a chronograph minute totalizer cut into sky blue and orange sectors, a white “Gulf” logo and a polished and rhodium-plated “60” numeral. The two totalizers of the silver opaline chronograph are perfectly visible, while the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock is discreet so as not to disrupt the harmony of the dial, traditionally bicompax. The hour and minute hands and the indexes are luminescent for perfect readability in the dark.
The Monaco can be recognized by its iconic square stainless steel case, water resistant to 100 meters. It attaches to the wrist with a beautiful microperforated calfskin strap with orange lining and closes with a steel folding clasp.
It is powered by the automatic Heuer 02 caliber, a high-performance manufacture movement designed and produced in-house which equips all the latest generation Monacos. It is visible through the transparent back which opens onto the oscillating weight enhanced with a special orange engraving, a color which also highlights the column wheel of the chronograph function. It offers a comfortable 80-hour power reserve.
the TAG Heuer Monaco x Gulf comes in a new packaging including a box and a travel pouch in the colors of Gulf Racing. Count at 6,700 €.
