“Our bodies, our lives, our choices”
For the 17th consecutive year, the World Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia raises awareness of the rights of the LGBTI+ community. In Toulouse, it also marks the start of two months of events as part of the Diversity Festival.
This Tuesday, May 17, the World day against LGBTIphobia also marks the launch of the Diversity Festival in Toulouse. Of them awareness sessions are organized for the occasion. A first to 2:30 p.m., during which the Auditorium of the Secular Space opens its doors to schools and socio-cultural structures in the neighborhoods. Then to 8:30 p.m. for a public session.
The town hall of Capitole will be illuminated in the colors of rainbow flag from 9:30 p.m. A symbolic act to support this unifying event for the LGBT+ community. Acted on May 17, 1990, this day symbolizes the decision of the World Health Organization (WHO) to no longer consider homosexuality as a mental illness. She takes her place in honor of Louis-Georges Tin, co-founder of the first LGBT association in 1997, Homonormalité. “Our bodies, our lives, our choices” and “every second, intolerance shortens lives” will be the slogans of this Day 2022.
Toulouse mobilizes against homophobia with the Diversity Festival
In the Pink City, demonstrations in defense of LGBTI communities will last two months, under the aegis of Pride Toulouse collective. On the program of this Diversity Festival 2022, plus a dozen exhibitions, each with its own theme. Photographic exhibition, graphic novel on the acceptance of one’s homosexuality, discrimination in sport up to the sexuality of seniors. All subjects are discussed with great openness. In addition, many exhibitions, round tables and activities will be available.
The event, like the World Day Against Homophobia, aims to defend LGBT+ rights, promote several awareness-raising actions and above all, fight against homophobia, lesbophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
Pride Market 2nd of July
The Diversity Festival will end on the traditional Pride March. This year it will take place on July 2 from Place du Capitole. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., several activities are planned: community village, radio broadcast, live concert. Finally, the procession will start complementary from 2:30 p.m..
