In order not to come to win the second period title, NWC had to take three points against the visitors from Hilvarenbeek who, with a ninth place, play a role of more in the H class.
Youri van Brussel freed himself on the right flank and dribbled in. He put the ball down for Daan van Gansewinkel, but the young midfielder shot the ball wide in the very promising position. Just across the net next to the NWC goal.
After the first fifteen minutes was over, NWC went into a bigger gear and that in a short time in many possibilities. For example, a swipe by Robin Rijnders went wide and Douwe Hurkmans was hindered just too much to get in a cross from Van Brussel. Hilvaria goalkeeper Martijn Bijdevier also stood his ground and turned Arne van Geffen’s effort with his feet. A minute later, a hard header from Brussels hit the post, Hurkmans shot the ball rolling back past. It was literally waiting for the 1-0 and in minute 25 it was finally hit. Hurkmans extended Van Brussel’s header from close range to a goal and put his team on a deserved progress: 1-0.
Then the Astense storm even abated, although Van Brussel had the misfortune that his handsome header from a difficult corner was parried by Bijdevier. In the beginning Hilvaria appeared dangerously in front of goal Gijs Brüsewitz, but gradually NWC should have taken a much wider margin to prevent both teams from starting with a 1-0 score.
After the break there was less to do, but NWC protected the position well. A header from Greg van Gestel flew over the goal five minutes after tea, but otherwise the green-and-whites contained little. NWC knew that the game had to decide the game in the second half and had opportunities through Hurkmans, whose left bet was knocked out by Bijdevier.
More than fifteen minutes before time NWC locked the game when Van Brussel intercepted the ball himself and went on the way to 2-0. He kept calm, finished Bijdevier and scored the second NWC goal. The orange shirts thought it was fine and men played the match and business out, without getting into trouble.
The Astenaren certainly have to hold on to the play-offs, but then the team is also dependent on others in this second division H.
On Sunday 22 May, NWC will play the beautiful game in Beek en Donk against Sparta’25, one of those contenders for a play-off ticket.
