High-speed infrastructure in Portugal Anticipating connection to Porto airport – Observer
Infraestrutura Portugal (IP) will quickly serve the Government that the train will arrive earlier than expected at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, the vice president said Monday in Matosinhos.
“It was proposed to the government […] that the connection to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is anticipated, and the high-speed trains could arrive earlier not only tomorrow, but then to a new station at the airport“, said Carlos Fernandes, in a presentation this Monday.
The vice president of IP spoke at the Portugal Railway Summit 2022, which takes place at the presidents terminal of Porto de Leixões, in Matosinhos, in the district of Porto, this Monday.

“There were two phases of forecasting, IP management to management of a“, which corresponds to the Carregado — Lisbon section, so that this “is delayed, probably, to after 2040”.
According to Carlos Fernandes, the two or three minutes of travel lost with the failure to carry out this work to Lisbon made it possible to allocate funds for the connection to Francisco Sá Carneiro airport, in Maia, which serves Porto, the North of the country and Galicia.
The high speed project is expected to be completed by 2030with the first phase, corresponding to the Porto — Soure (Coimbra) section, with works between 2026 and 2028.
The airport was planned for the connection in Vigo in a pre-planned phase to Vigo.
Carlos Fernandes also confirmed that “it is in studies, but a new station in Gaia is already planned, which will be the first in the Porto Metropolitan Area“.
“Where the trains are going to stop for President Ou”, confirming the information already released by the Vila Nova de Gaia City Council, Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues.
According to Carlos Fernandes, “people will get off at that first station in Gaia after the train then heads to Campanhã”, in Porto.
