Don’t exclude everyone! Russian hockey player set a record at the world championship with the first throw
Denis Malgin chalked up a free goal in the tournament. True, as part of the Swiss team.
For the first time since 1962, the world championship is held without the participation of our team. But, no matter how much the organizers of the 2022 World Cup in Finland found themselves fenced off from Russia, the “Russian trace” in Suomi is still visible.
Despite the disqualification of Russia, a lot of hockey players with Russian players came to the tournaments. Among them was the leader of the Swiss national team Denis Malgin.
The Russian Swiss scored at the World Championships in the very first match – and immediately set a tournament record!
First throw record
In Swiss time, he arrives at the training camp with the firm intention of getting rid of the status of a middle-class team and joining the same in obtaining European giants. So Switzerland brought a strong team to the 2022 World Cup with an eye on medals.
Tournament in Finland for the Swiss Championship with games against an outsider in the person of the Italian national team: a great chance for a confident start. And this team accidentally took advantage of it, scoring four unanswered goals in the first period.
Moreover, the opening of the score in the match took place in the first minute. 49 seconds after the starting whistle of the gates of Italy, our old friend, Denis Malygin, printed out. The Swiss defender began the attack, passing the puck to Darion Simion, and the forward transferred it to Malgin with one touch. Denis entered the situation without resistance, being one on one with the goalkeeper, and decided the episode.
Thus, the Russian Swiss set a record for the 2022 World Cup: his goal still bears the title of the fastest in the tournament. Danish hockey player Patrick Bjorkstrand achieved this actual achievement: he broke the gates of Kazakhstan 123 seconds after the start of the match (9:1).
The record for the entire time of holding international championships belongs to the Belarusian Sergei Demagin. In 2009, he scored in the 5th season match against Finland.
Refused from the Russian team
It is interesting that Malgin’s achievement did not take place, because at one time Denis wrote for the Russian national team, which, as you know, took place today at the World Cup.
Denis’s father, Albert Malgin, in the past left for the Perm “Hammer” and the Resurrection “Khimik”, and in 1993 he moved to Switzerland. His son was already born in Europe, but this did not prevent him from mastering the Russian language. Denis, on the whole, is in awe of a conscious origin: in one of the interviews, he even admitted that he was exploring the possibilities of soldiers for the Russian team,
Russia is a powerful force in hockey and, of course, I also really want to play in it. But for this, in my opinion, I had to play for some club in Russia itself for three years, I wanted this not to be included in my plans – to try my hand at the NHL. It’s a pity, – Malgin quotes the official website of the NHL.

In the end, Malgin carefully checked his hockey league, but he has not yet become a star – in five seasons he has accumulated 192 matches. But at the World Championships in Finland, the Russian Swiss has already distinguished himself – and he will leave the tournament, if not with a trophy, then at least with a record.
