The front is advancing through Slovakia. Expect storms in the afternoon, especially in these areas
After a very warm Thursday, there was a significant change in the weather. Today will be significantly colder than yesterday and at the same time more precipitation must be expected. There is also a threat of storms, the risk of which is throughout Slovakia.
After the first tropical day, which brought temperatures to our territory over the +30 ° C border yesterday, a change came. We were affected by the cold front, which brought the first storms and rain to Slovakia during the night.
During the night, storms occurred in the far west and south of the Danube Plain, where a total of about 150 lightning strikes. The storm activity stopped in the morning hours and from the west a rainfall field slid over our territory, which takes care of cloudy and sometimes rainy mornings all over Slovakia.
It rained most significantly during the night in western Slovakia, where precipitation totals range from 5 to 10 mm. At the moment, another rainfall field is sliding over our territory, which will bring another wave of rain, but there are also threats of storms.
The cold front will bring rain and storms
The cold front is currently located directly above our territory and provides cold air to strong, warm air. We can observe it on current
For example, in Moravia, in the south of Poland, or in serious Slovakia, the current temperatures are around +17 to +18 ° C, but in Budapest it is already +23 ° C and in central Hungary up to +25 ° C.
There is a storm on this cold front today, which will be even stronger, and it is not excluded that it will also hit the territory.
Weaker storms can occur during the day in western and central Slovakia. However, more severe storms will be in the east.
The afternoon will bring strong storms
Austrian meteorologists, for example, warn of strong storms, expecting storms in the southern foothills of the Alps in southern Austria, especially around Klagenfurt and Graz. However, storm warnings also apply throughout Hungary.
Today, storms will not bypass our territory either. According to current forecasts of numerical models, storm activity will begin around 13:00 in southern Austria, Hungary and eastern Slovakia.
The storms will hit eastern Slovakia in particular, where they may be more pronounced and will continue from the west, towards the east. The activity of the storms will weaken after 16:00, when the cold air will be pushed over the whole of Slovakia and the cold front will come from our territory.
