the four faculties of medicine merge for the former faculty of Health
The faculty of Health, created at the end of 2021, brings together the faculties of medicine of Rangueil and Purpan, the faculty of pharmacy and the faculty of dentistry. A first in France.
End of the four medical and paramedical universities in Toulouse, now place at the Faculty of Health. The faculties of medicine of Purpan and Rangueil, pharmacy and dental surgery merge to form a single entity: a first in France. “The objective is to create a link between the different components in order to improve patient care.“, explains Philippe Pomar, the dean of this new faculty, just appointed.
A total of 16,000 students and 570 teacher-researchers are now part of this same faculty.
Today, when you as a patient have 4 or 5 appointments with healthcare professionals, none of these professionals know each other and none of them have any idea of their colleague’s training. The Faculty of Health is created to create a link between the different medical components.
Philippe Pomar, Dean of the Faculty of Health
With the creation of this new administrative entity, all teaching has been redesigned. The guideline: make the student a fully-fledged player in his training. “Transversal programs will be offered. The idea is to collaborate with all university courses, whether economic, philosophical or political, to help the student understand the human being. Behind the patient there is a human and behind a human there is the whole of society“, explains Philippe Pomar.
The dean of the faculty of Health wishes to transmit to his students a knowledge of the territory thanks to stages in various structures, public as well as private. The objective is to enable them to travel to rural areas, to the heart of medical deserts.
The question of future premises has not yet been decided: students continue to have classes in each of the four faculties. No site has been chosen but two have been selected: that of Rangueil and that of Langlade, near the Oncopole. “The project will really make sense when all the students are together“, considers Philippe Pomar before concluding: “The faculty of Health is a return to the human, with the look of today and the vision of tomorrow“.
