City of Brussels promotes legal cannabis points of sale
Among the more than 150 addresses in a new tourist route to relax in the middle of Brussels CBD shops: legal cannabis outlets† Brussels has one million euros left for the development of the route.
Brussels-City promotes a new route around self-care among tourists. She puts numerous beauty salons and wellness centers in the spotlight. Notable among the recommended addresses are also seven CBD stores: legal cannabis outlets. “That also helps you relax”, replies Fabian Maingain. Cannabi (CBD) is the substance of cannabis, without the intoxicating ingredient THC. So it won’t get you high. One of the tips is Canna House in the Kleerkoperstraat.
“We focus on wellness products, other CBD shops are more likely to sell vape cigarettes,” says salesperson David Togmat. His largest turnover comes from the sale of cannabis oil. “Eight out of ten customers here are looking for a natural alternative to medication,” says Togmat. He also sells lollipops, tea, massage oil, bath bombs and even beer with CBD. But just as well cigarettes and vape flavors.
To this end, the City of Brussels is promoting a store concept that has not convinced everyone. Research into CBD remains scarce and medically in 2020 seven out of ten checked CBD shops in our country did not comply with the rules: they sold products with too much THC, for example. In Brussels, opposition parties CD&V and N-VA have already asked for a ban around schools, to no avail for the time being. “CBD shops are legal shops. Their numbers remain just as stable and they do not cause any nuisance in the city,” says Maingain. “The stores themselves tipped us off through customer surveys.”
