The Biblio SMS is back in full swing
Activities resume in the presence of the municipal library, open every day until 7 pm, with new spaces for the presentation of books
PISA – From the month of May the new timetables of the Sms Municipal Library of Pisain via San Michele degli Scalzi alle Piagge: doors open every day except Sunday, from Monday to Friday from 9 to 19 and on Saturday from 10.30 to 19.
“After a long period of suspension and limitation of activities caused by the pandemic – explained the head of the library Angela Parini– as part of the activities with the Biblioland Networkwith which the Municipality of Pisa has renewed the agreement for the period 2020-2024, they will come resuming and implementing face-to-face activities of the SMS library on the subject of reading promotion, aimed at all users “.
Among the activities and news on the program are the new spaces for meetings with the author and the presentation of bookspromotional activities with schools, readings for children, as well as projects for new dedicated shelves particularly representative of the territory, such as the history of information technology, theater and books in foreign languages to which other initiatives will be dedicated to involve all those who who live in Pisa around the activities of the library.
“We succeeded – added the councilor for culture Pierpaolo Magnani -, after the restrictions on opening to the pandemic which saw the closure of the library and then the reduction of opening hours, to bring the library back to full functioning, not only re-establishing normal opening hours, but extending it to two more afternoons. Since May, the SMSBiblio has always been open, every day from Monday to Saturday until 7 pm. We also used the closing period during the pandemic to rethink the layout of the spaces inside the library. We have created a new area for the presentation of books on the first floor, in a space, with the large window overlooking the church of San Michele degli Scalzi and the greenery of Viale delle Piagge, where the activity of presenting the books has already started. books that will be developed more and more, like so activities with schools will multiplywith children, teenagers, students and all citizens to ensure that the library becomes more and more a fundamental center of aggregation of the city “.
“This – underlined the commissioner – also from the point of view of proximity to Sms exhibition center, which is becoming the home of the associations, now close to becoming fully operational at the end of the summer. The whole area will increasingly become a reference center for aggregation and cultural activities available to the city “.
In particular, as regards the readings for children, every second Tuesday of the month from 10 to 11, there will be space for the volunteers of “Born to read Pisa” aimed at children from 0 to 6 years. Furthermore, for the readings in the Sms Library with NpL volunteers, the next afternoon appointments are Wednesday 4 and 18 May, 4.30pm-5.30pm.
Among the book presentations scheduled, the next appointment is Friday 13 May with “Authors in the mirror”, five questions to Rosaria Di Donato, author of “Prayer in January” (Macabor publisher), and Gianpaolo Mastropasqua, author of “Hologram in The minor “(Caosfera edizioni). Dialogue with the authors Valeria Serofilli, president of Astrolabiocultura. Readings by Rodolfo Baglioni (starts at 5pm, booking is recommended). On Friday 20 May at 5 pm there will be the presentation of the book of poems “Turning back” by Maria Rosa Ceragioli, presented by Claudia Zimmermann, with an introduction by Micol Carmignani. On Tuesday 24 May at 5 pm there will be the yoga meeting for parents and children and the presentation of the book “The yoga of the senses” in which the author Luisa Berterame and Claudia Centi (Federighe Editori) will be present.
The book presentations will be published on the website of the municipality of Pisa, in the section Library, Events 2022. From 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm for the loan service the self-checkout stations are active exclusively for the books of the SMS Library. The library will not open on Saturdays only in July.
