For 3 weeks, from Wednesday May 25 to Sunday June 19 inclusive, the Rouen National Arts Biennial will exhibit 110 artists with 220 works.
- Coming from all over Normandy, painters, sculptors, subligraphers and photographers meet in Rouen to exhibit their production for 3 weeks, from May 25 to June 19.
- The Rouen National Arts Biennale will be able to be held again in Rouen after its cancellation in 2020 due to the health crisis. This 5th edition will mark the 10th anniversary of this artistic meeting which returns every two years to welcome more than a hundred artists, including 61 visual artists, 31 sculptors, 6 photographers, 6 subligraphers and as many students from the ‘ESADAR.
- Coming mainly from all over Normandy, the notoriety of the meeting now attracts a third of artists from other regions, including Ile de France in particular. More than 200 works will be visible free of charge every day without interruption, under the renovated Halle aux Toiles. A tribute to three devotees of the recently deceased salon will be paid to the painters Laszlo Mindszenti and Micheline Bousquet as well as to the sculptor Dominique Denry.
- A space will be devoted to subligraphy, a still little-known technique consisting in sublimating high-quality images by reproducing them on rigid materials primed with a varnish. Let us cite Yves Desportes, Stéphane L’Hôte and Alain Colliard as worthy representatives of this artistic discipline.
- From Michel Delaunay from Rouen to René Vardon from Dieppe or Patrick Boulnois from Le Havre, the various pictorial trends will rub shoulders on the picture rails of the Halle aux Toiles. Among the thirty sculptors, let us mention in particular the very famous Thierry Bénénati, Rasko or Edith Molet Oghia with their creations in marble, glass or bronze. For three editions, photographers have been presented at the biennial and six will exhibit this year, including Jean-Baptiste Ducastel and Eric Bénard.
- The Rouen Arts Nationaux association is once again continuing its action in favor of young creation. Six students at the end of their course at ESADHaR (Le Havre-Rouen School of Art and Design) can thus exhibit free of charge alongside established artists.
- In its approach, Rouen National Arts has highlighted recent artistic movements favoring other artistic trends than those already recognized in Normandy. For the organizers supported by the City of Rouen and the Normandy Region, the Rouen conurbation must host a quality artistic event open to artists from multiple backgrounds. After selection by the curator, each of the artists presents two works and all of them will be for sale during the fair. Most artists perform in Rouen to meet visitors and discuss their work. In addition, plastic visits and workshops will be organized for school children.
