Two capsule hotels planned in Salzburg – rolling pin
When the so-called capsule hotels were invented in Japan (where else?), pictures of the dystopian-looking accommodations in this country caused great astonishment. Sleeping in a bunk that has just enough space for one person lying down plus luggage – who wants that?
Years later, capsule hotels have become a real boom in big cities. More and more entrepreneurs realized that the minimally equipped accommodations are quite popular. For budget-oriented backpackers, adventurers, or guests who simply want to experience a night in the bunk out of curiosity.
The Kainz real estate group jumped on the trend and had the construction of a capsule hotel in Salzburg’s Auerspergstrasse approved. The hostel should have up to 100 bunks. They are scheduled to open next year – despite protests from residents who feared a shortage of parking spaces as a result of mass tourism.
Second capsule hotel in planning
As reported by the Salzburger Nachrichten, the construction of a similar overnight accommodation with 44 beds has now been applied for. The hotel is to be built on part of the premises of the Feller trouser manufacturer.
There are already several capsule hotels in Vienna, for example one at Vienna-Schwechat Airport, where you can usually stay for less than 50 euros per person.
