Toulouse: Tmly, the second-hand application that wants to compete with Vinted
An application for selling second-hand clothes, also a social network: this is the concept of Tmly, designed largely in Toulouse and available throughout France.
Jeans, a shirt, a dress but also puzzles and children’s books… at just 5 euros. On the Tmly application, the offers scroll like on any second-hand application. With one particularity: each user can connect to trusted people, establish social links, send recommendations or voice messages. It’s a mixture of two worlds: online sales and the social network. The goal? Participate in the second-hand economy by providing more security for younger generations. The idea comes from Jérémie Engel, an entrepreneur who has been living in Toulouse for about ten years.
Avoid scams
“When I thought of creating this application, my daughters were 14 and 16 years old. By selling their clothes on very well-known sites, they quickly faced professional scams.” Often, serious sales proposals are confused with more dubious ones. “For the youngest, it’s difficult to tell the difference. So I wanted to create an application that corresponds to 15-25 year olds”, he adds. With six partners, based throughout France, the application was developed over three years to be up to the best known: Vinted, Le BonCoin… “The difference is really in the social network part. What makes the security , it’s the link with the sellers”, promises the forties. The little extra is also in the remuneration of those who recommend a purchase to a friend: “It’s one of the only marketplaces where you can make money without selling anything.” After a few months of online, Tmly (contraction of “team”, team in French) has a hundred users and about a thousand objects for sale.
