Bottleneck in Berlin: Stadtmission is urgently looking for clothes for the homeless
The Berlin City Mission is urgently looking for sneakers, men’s shoes and hooded jackets for the homeless. But T-shirts, jeans and sweatpants, boxer shorts and socks without holes would also be needed, said spokeswoman Barbara Breuer on Monday. There is also a lack of well-preserved sleeping bags and sleeping mats.
Currently, hardly any clothing donations for men are given to the Berlin City Mission. “With the beginning of the warm season, the topic of homelessness always takes a back seat,” she said, giving one of the reasons for the drop in donations. In addition, many donors currently have war refugees from Ukraine in mind. “Some of these come to us in the clothing store,” says Breuer.
The more than 100 needy people who regularly visit the clothing store of the evangelical association on Lehrter Straße cannot be supplied with the clothing they need at the moment.
Donations can be made contactless on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the reception of the Berlin City Mission at Lehrter Straße 68. Containers are also available there. Donations can also be made in the Textile Harbor of the Berlin City Mission at Storkower Strasse 139D, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
