RTL Today – On our roads: Festival of drunk drivers this weekend in Luxembourg
No less than eleven permits have been withdrawn in recent hours in the Grand Duchy, each time for drunk driving.
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the police carried out an important road check in the capital from 10:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. 194 motorists had to blow into the balloon, ten of them had drunk too much and four drivers lost their driving license at the checkpoint.
On Saturday afternoon, around 4:00 p.m., a police patrol turned around on the N10 between Hüttermühle and Stadtbredimus when a vehicle zigzagged towards the officers half in their lane. The car could then be stopped at the entrance to Stadtbredimus and the driver checked. The breathalyzer proved positive, the driver’s license was withdrawn on the spot.
A little later in the evening, a drunk motorcyclist was reported in Lintgen, route de Luxembourg. He was trying to get going after having already fallen twice with his motorcycle. He would also have assaulted people already present. On the spot, the police found that the motorcyclist had consumed alcohol and that all the papers of his motorcycle were expired, with the exception of a valid insurance. A driving license withdrawal could not be stopped.
Around 7 p.m. on Saturday evening, a driver left the road between Grousbous and Grevels and brushed against a tree. He then returned to the roadway and touched the exterior mirror of the oncoming vehicle. The vehicle then skidded and its passenger side struck a second tree. The driver was slightly injured and taken to hospital by ambulance. The driver was under the influence of alcohol, which cost him his driver’s license.
Sunday morning, it was around 3:45 a.m. that a patrol arrived in Weiler-la-Tour to meet a car moving at high speed after having made a turn in the opposite lane before continuing on its way. The car was intercepted on a parking strip, with flashing lights and siren. The driver smelled strongly of alcohol and immediately admitted to having consumed alcoholic beverages. The breathalyzer therefore logically turned out to be positive. The driver’s license was withdrawn and the provisional ban on driving was notified.
In addition, three other license withdrawals, first with a report for a blood alcohol level greater than or equal to 0.55 mg/l (1.2‰) were reported in Colmar-Berg, Mersch and Heisdorf.
Finally, three reports were also reduced to drivers whose blood alcohol level was below 0.55 mg/l (1.2‰), twice in Mersch and once in Rollingen.
