For the first time: Bulgarian participates in the local elections in London – Politics – Bulgaria – Focus with Lora Krumova
For the first time, a Bulgarian ran in the local elections in London, which ended in a crushing loss for Britain’s ruling Conservative Party. His work is probably special in our opinion – he integrates foreigners into British society. Who is he and why did he decide to stand up to the people of the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson – says Pavlina Trifonova.
Nishan Jingozyan is from Varna. He arrived in London to study and stayed for 23 years. Much of my career has been dedicated to helping foreigners integrate into British society. Brexit shows him that this is much more difficult if immigrants do not have their own political representation and decide to run for municipal councilor in the London borough of Anfield, home to about 25,000 Bulgarians. He is on the list of the opposition Labor Party.
“The area I was in is called Whitewebs. Unfortunately, there are very few Bulgarians in it – only 28 according to our data. So for the great evil I can not rely on the voting technique. The Tories advanced, the Conservative Party a successful election in Anfield. The difference between me and the third representative of the Conservative Party, which enters the council, is 400 votes out of 10,000 eligible to vote, “Jingogyan replied.
However, the election loss did not show the Bulgarian to continue defending the interests of our compatriots on the island.
“This is a battle I have fought for many years. I have been working in local government for 15 years. I have worked and still work for some of the largest properties in London. Responsible for social inclusion programs in the communities, you can identify as priority teams of the mayor of London. The Bulgarian community is one of them “, I say Nishan.
One of the big problems these local authorities in England are now facing is how to help foreigners deprived of social benefits to win suspicions of abuse of opportunity during the COVID crisis.
“It turned out to be a huge disaster that there are many Bulgarians among the people who have submitted incorrect, inaccurate or incorrect information for one reason or another. Their aid was suspended. This put a part of the Bulgarian community in an extremely difficult and very delicate situation – without access to the social system, without work, because the pandemic had a huge impact on the labor market, specifically in London. Anfield is a district in north-east London and has 16,000 Bulgarians who are not registered with a GP. This is a huge problem for the British National Health Service, “said Jingogyan.
Unlike many Bulgarians who prefer to return home after Brexit and the pandemic, Nishan is not ready for this step.
“My whole life is in London. The adaptation from Bulgaria to Great Britain was very difficult – foreign environment, culture and language. Extremely huge, competitive city. But I think that an adaptation from Great Britain to Bulgaria will not be easier. Perhaps one of the reasons is that I work and work in an extremely narrow niche – a profession in the UK, which does not exist in Bulgaria. I will most likely be in Bulgaria, so as not to sound immodest, but highly qualified unemployed, because this profession simply does not exist in Bulgaria, “he said.
