After the double victory in football and rugby, Toulouse explodes with joy
Saturday May 7, Toulouse was in the spotlight. After the qualification of Stade Toulouse in the European Cup and the coronation of TFC as champion of Ligue 2, the people of Toulouse let their joy explode.
Saturday May 7, 2022 remains a date to remember for the Pink City. The TFC crowned champion of Ligue 2, the Toulouse stadium which qualifies for the semi-final of the European Cup. Last night, the streets of Toulouse were set ablaze in a very good-natured atmosphere.
After 8:50 p.m., the Stadium lawn changes from green to purple. Yesterday, Saturday May 7, the date was historic. The TFC, already guaranteed to move to Ligue 1, is crowned Ligue 2 champion for the fourth time in its history, 19 years after the last title. And the people of Toulouse rose to the occasion.
Toulouse wins two goals to one against the Nîmes team in a stadium on fire. “We are marking the history of the club… and I think we will always have a bond between us thanks to this title”, welcomes the coach, Philippe Montanier.
And on the side of the supporters, the emotion was also there. “It’s been twenty years since we had a trophy for a whole generation born in 2004, we haven’t experienced all that and it’s beautiful. It’s memories etched in our heads for life”, a young supporter is moved. Another evokes the club’s bygone years of wandering: “The last few years there was no one left, we were bored at the stadium. It’s a pleasure, [il y a une] great atmosphere, it’s party time!”
Stade Toulousain has qualified for the semi-final of the European Cup. The defending champions snatched victory in Ireland against Munster after a penalty shootout (4-2), a rarity in rugby.
When, at a press conference, the journalists broadcast the result of Stade Toulouse to the TFC coach, a spontaneous cry of joy escapes: “Putin bravo Ugo [Mola]! It’s a rugby city, it’s a football city, it’s a sports city and we’re happy to be part of this dynamic.” he blurted, his gaze full of pride.
Toulouse will vibrate next season in Ligue 1 with the TFC, and will still dream of a sixth star for its oval ball players.
