Toulouse: “We can become the city of animated cinema”, rejoices Anne Boyer in charge of culture in Haute-Garonne
Contacted on the question of the potential of Toulouse as a city of cinema, Anne Boyer, vice-president of department 31 in charge of Culture is optimistic. The elected affirms that the departmental council “develops many initiatives”.
How does the Haute-Garonne departmental council participate in the development of cinema?
Above all, we give huge support on festivals. This allows people from Toulouse and Hauts-Garonne to meet the world of cinema. We also attach great importance to the film library. It is still the second in France. It is getting bigger and bigger. The audience is also changing. There are many young people who discover cinematographic works. In addition, we are lucky to have Agnès Jaoui as president. It provides impetus and a lot of visibility. There is also the Luchon festival, which we also obviously support.
We feel that our department has the potential to host many film shoots and production companies…
Yes, we hosted, for example at the Château de Laréole, several films. At the moment we still have a film with Agnès Jaoui. On one also more and more shoots. Toulouse is a very beautiful city for cinema.
What are the initiatives to make the department even more attractive for the cinema?
By further exploiting our efforts, particularly on the Cinémathèque. Festivals too. Thanks to that, producers could come to us and see that it’s a place with plenty of filming possibilities. We also provide assistance with local authorities. And as soon as there is a shoot, we make everything available to host the productions.
Is there still a difference in development between traditional cinema, which is struggling to take up space, and the rise of animated cinema?
It’s true, I’m beginning to see. We met several current actors who speak to us. We can become the city of animated cinema. On several festivals elsewhere. I think it will develop further. It would be nice to have this image.
