Toulouse is crowned champion of France 2021-2022!
It’s official. Thanks to its 2-1 victory this Saturday against Nîmes, Toulouse Football Club is guaranteed to finish top of the Championship at the end of the season. The club of the pink city therefore offers itself the title of Champion of France 2021-2022 from the antechamber of French football. A great reward for the men of Philippe Montanier, who flew over the championship for almost the whole year. Leaders now with an 8 point lead one day from the end, they can no longer be caught up.
This title comes to conclude a very good week on the side of Téfécé. Almost two weeks earlier, in Niort (2-0), the Toulousains had validated their rise to Ligue 1 two years after being relegated and one after failing in the play-offs against Antoine Kombouaré’s FC Nantes. A just reward for this club which restructured itself after its relegation and which relied heavily on a very good recruitment cell and a competent training center.
Third title in club history
Best attack and second defense in the championship, the Violets have quickly extinguished the competition this season even if they have never taken off in the standings thanks to competitors who have long held in the race for first place. In his mission to rise in Ligue 1, the former coach of Real Sociedad or Rennes Philippe Montanier was able to count on high-performance players, like the metronome Van den Boomen, author of 12 goals and 20 assists in 36 matches this season or even English striker Rhys Healey, top scorer in Ligue 2 with 20 goals.
This Ligue 2 title is the third in the history of Toulouse, after those of 1982 and 2003. It is also the third title in the history of the club in general. Next season, the Pitchounes will therefore return to Ligue 1 and could well surprise their world thanks to a new generation and a new, more ambitious and qualitative club policy. But in the meantime, there is a championship title to celebrate for the supporters.
