The failures of Hurkacz and Fręch. Poor Saturday in Polish tennis
Hubert Hurkacz, hand in hand with John Isner, lost on Saturday 0: 2 (6: 7, 5: 7) with the duo Neal Skupski – Wesley Koolhof in the semi-final of the ATP tournament in Madrid. Also Magdalena Fręch, who lost in the semifinals of the tournament in Saint-Mallo with Anna Blinkowa 1: 2 (6: 3, 3: 6, 7: 6), was also defeated.
Our best tennis player, Hubert Hurkacz, was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the single with the “number one” of the ATP ranking, Serb Novak Djokovic (3: 6.4: 6) in the prestigious Mutua Madrid Open. Now he has said goodbye to the tournament in the capital for good.
Hurkacz and Isner did not show off on Saturday. Although they are known for their powerful websites, they won “only” 68 percent. Both the Pole and the American lost one service game in the match. In the first installment, Skupski and Koolhof broke them once, which resulted in a 7: 5 win. In the second break, they immediately lost their earned- but won 9: 7 in the tiebreak.
For the couple it was the second tournament together. Earlier, they won the tournament in Miami this year, where in the final they defeated … just Skupski and Koolhof. In this case, the Polish-American duo won 2: 0 (7: 6, 6: 4). Hurkacz currently operates 46th in the doubles ranking. In the single, he will move up to 12th place from 14th on Monday when ATP releases its new rankings.
