Opposed to Caen, this Saturday at the Stade de France (5:15 p.m.), OL can put an end to 25 years of scarcity in the Gambardella Cup. If successful, it would be Lyon’s 4th title in the competition.
There is an anomaly. Considered one of the best training centers in France and Europe, OL cannot combine this reputation with a Coupe Gambardella title. We have to go back to 1997 to find the trace of a coronation with, at the time, Armand Garrido as coach or even Steed Malbranque and Jérémy Bréchet as players. An eternity for a club likeLO especially since the opportunities have presented themselves since. In 2005 with the duo Ben Arfa – Benzemain 2006 and more recently in 2015. But each time OL broke their teeth and therefore have three consecutive failures.
9th final in OL history
The final against Caen this Saturday at the Stade de France, the 9th in the history of theLO, must therefore serve to break this spell and allow the Lyon club to reconnect with its glorious past. The pressure is strong on the shoulders of Eric Hély’s players who can bring back the 4th Gambardella Cup in OL history. With a success against the Normans, the Lyonnais would join theAS Saint-Etiennethe Nimes Olympic and theAS Monaco like dolphins of an AJ Auxerre untouchable with his 7 titles in the competition.
