Exit certain sexist laws, the Principality of Monaco has analyzed nearly 12,000 legal and legislative texts to get a new look.
This updating of the legal provisions contributes to continuing the construction of the edifice of women’s rights and to bringing the Principality into line with the evolution of society and, at the international level, in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations.

If you thought a Monegasque woman, becoming a bailiff or notary was prohibited. Only men could perform this function. Similarly, the law has abolished the waiting period which required women to wait 310 days to remarry following widowhood or dissolution of marriage. This had a time limit for but to ensure that the difficulty of the woman is not pregnant by her last spouse and thus avoid any as to the paternity of the unborn child. Another example is the modification of the expressions “good father” in certain cases or “au pair girl” for more neutral and non-gendered terms.
