Portugal enters the New European Bauhaus and Horizon Europe project
Portugal integrates one of the five projects that will be financed by the skyline europe no context New European Bauhaus, announced the European Commission (EC) on Wednesday. It’s called EHHUR (Eyes, Hearts, Hands, Urban Revolution) will be efficient and dedicated to combating social exclusion, poverty and the degradation of historic centres.
With some common objectives, including in areas such as smart cities and action, the program skyline europe it’s the movement New European Bauhaus (NBEsq.) Called “lighthouse demonstrators”, the goal is for them to help respond to challenges societies by cities, citizens and decision makers and embracing both the key principles of NBE – beauty, sustainability and inclusion -, want one mission-oriented approach (impacting, measurable and focused) in an innovative and benchmark way.

Five “lighthouse demonstrators” were selected, who will lead ecological change at the local level in 13 countries, and one of them has the Portuguese participation. In addition to the EHUR, the following projects were selected: CULTUURCAMPUS, for the creation of a sustainable center where art, research, training and community will support a favored urban area in the Netherlands; NEB-STAR from Norway, Czechia and the Netherlands to address, in citizen co-creation, challenges linked to carbon-neutral cities; NEBhourhoods, to prepare a German neighborhood for the future in line with the European Green Deal; DESIRE, carried out by the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Slovenia and Latvia to explore the transformation of territories, focusing on a more circular society.
With a total allocation of 25 million euros for the call to “lighthouse demonstrators”, the program skyline europe will sign five million euros for each of the selected projects, after the formalization of the agreements. The selected initiatives will also have financial support through the CRAFT project (CREATING Actionable Futures), which will test local models for transformation cannot yet be done NBE in the cities of Amsterdam, Bologna and Prague and number 100 chosen EC Mission for smart and carbon neutral cities unveiled in late April.
Pilots, which will now be developed over two years, producing, according to the EC, “a diversity of results that can be adapted and replicated across Europe and the world”. In the words of EC President Ursula von der Leyen, these “will show what the future might look like and bring the European Green Deal for how Everyday lives and ours for our spaces. These projects should become the starting point for a European and worldwide network of projects in the New European Bauhaus”.
