From June 13 to 18, 2022, Brittany will be present at the International Animation Film Festival in Annecy! You could talk about a project orally, meet Bretagne Cinéma, don’t hesitate to make an appointment. You can find the Breton delegation at stand B 19. Focus on the Breton projects that will be presented during the festival.
World premiere feature films in official competition
Already presented in the Work in Progress selection of the festival in 2021, Nayola is an animated film directed by the Portuguese José Miguel Ribeiro and based on a Portuguese-speaking African play written by Mia Couto and José Eduardo Angualusa, The black box. The result of international cooperation, it is co-produced by Praça Filmes (Portugal), SOIL (Belgium), Il Luster Productions (Netherlands) and the Breton company JPL Movies. Supported by Bretagne Cinéma, the project received financial aid from the Brittany Region in partnership with the CNC.
Synopsis : Angola. Three generations of war-stricken women: Lelena (the grandmother), Nayola (her daughter) and Yara (her granddaughter), past and present intertwine. Nayola goes in search of her husband who disappeared at the height of the war. Decades later, the country is finally at peace, but Nayola has not returned. Yara became a rebellious teenager, a subversive rap singer.
- Forbidden to dogs and the Italians
Already present in Annecy in 2020 in the Work in Progress selection, Forbidden to dogs and Italians is a 2D stop motion feature film directed by Alain Ughetto. Co-produced by Les Films du Tambour de Soie, Long live Monday! (Rennes company), Foliascope, Graffiti Doc, Lux Fugit Film, Nadasdy Film, Patouch Films, the film is supported by Bretagne Cinéma and has received financial aid from the Brittany Region in partnership with the CNC. The film will be distributed by Gebeka Films and is expected in theaters early next year. It will also be broadcast in Switzerland on the RTS channel.
Synopsis : Early 20th century, in northern Italy, in Ughettera, birthplace of the Ughetto family. Life in this region having become very difficult, the Ughetto dream of starting all over again abroad. According to legend, Luigi Ughetto then crossed the Alps and began a new life in France, forever changing the fate of his beloved family. His grandson retraces their salvation herestory.
Short films in official competition
11-minute stop motion short film directed by Chloé Alliez and Violette Delvoye, Fair of Liaisonsuses is produced by Long live Monday! and Zerubbabel. The sets, compositing and special effects were done in Rennes in the studio Nobody is perfect !. Breton technicians worked on this film, in particular Blandine Jet on the screenplay; Fabienne Collet, Agnès Lecreux and Bruno Collet for decoration; Thibaut Richard and Quentin Chevrel on compositing and SFX; Pierre Bouchon in color grading; Caroline Lafarge in production management and Damien Buquen in photography. Supported by Bretagne Cinéma, the short film received financial assistance from the Brittany Region in partnership with the CNC.
Synopsis : Tonight is the big party at Claire’s, and it’s going to be so cool. Besides, Jimmy came. Everyone knows he’s there for Maya. But her, does her heart beat for Jimmy?
Supported by Bretagne Cinema, yugo is directed by Colombian artist Carlos Gómez Salamanca and produced by the Breton company JPL Movies, Nocroma and Ikki Films. The film’s animation mixes various techniques, including powder animation, cel drawing, and computer-made 3D animation. The film received financial support from the Brittany Region in partnership with the CNC.
Synopsis : On the scale of a lifetime, the itinerary of a woman and a man forced to leave their native countryside questions the capitalist and liberal economic development of Latin America and its consequences on humans.
Mifa location
Original creation by Pierre Le Couviour and Amine El Ouarti, The dancing heart promises to be a family comedy punctuated by the songs of the workers of the conservatives and steeped in the legend of Ys, a legendary Breton town which was swallowed up by the ocean. Produced by Long live Monday! and supported by Bretagne Cinéma, the feature film has received writing support from the Brittany Region. The film is still in development and will be presented in the Feature Films Pitch section of the Annecy Mifa International Animation Film Market. To succeed, the project is looking for broadcaster(s), distributor(s) and producer(s)/co-producer(s).
Synopsis : 1918, Douarnenez, land of fishermen and legends. Venaig’s father is at the front. To bring him back, she decides to organize the party that made them happy and that of the Breton port before the war. But adults no longer have the heart to dance.
