AS Monaco: an untouchable team?
Winner against Strasbourg during its last reception, LOSC faces AS Monaco this Friday evening at 9 p.m. at the Pierre Mauroy stadium. The task promises to be very difficult for Lille against a Monegasque team which has won its last 7 Ligue 1 matches and which seems untouchable.
In the race for the title last season with Lille and Lyon, Monaco, like its former competitors, missed his first part of the season. At the head of the team, Nico Kovac was replaced this winter by Philippe Clement. A change that appeared, especially since, following the arrival of the former coach of FC Bruges, Monaco only won 3 games in 9 meetings. 9th with 10 days remaining, the Monegasques also failed in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France against Nantes and in the knockout stages of the Europa League against SC Braga. Many disappointments that did not prevent the Rocher club from delivering a successful performance against PSG (3-0) just before the March truce. Fresh mentally and physically, the Monegasques have since won each of their meetings, with a series of 7 consecutive successes before the trip to Lille. A recovery in hand at the best of times for ASM, which invited itself into the course on the podium with Nice and Rennes, dropping completely behind teams like LOSC and OL.
Rediscovered efficiency
Philippe Clément’s debut at the head of Le Rocher was marked by a very offensive mentality but too energy intensive. Lacking in confidence, the Monegasque formation tended to be surprised on the counter-attack and lacked defensive solidity. The Belgian technician made adjustments to remobilize his group. A few weeks, Monaco has since evolved into a 4-4-2 compact with a game in transition and an attacker placed in number 10 in the offensive phaseas it happens Kevin Volland. The wingers have a real defensive contribution, like the rise in power of vanderson, a professional right-back created as a right midfielder, who has shone in the Monegasques’ counter-attack game in recent weeks. The revelation of the Brazilian winter rookie relegated one of ASM’s best players in the first part of the season, namely Sofiane Diop, on the bench. The French international Espoirs, however, made his return to the Monegasque 11 during his team’s victory against Angers (2-0).
Ben Yedder at his best
Monegasque for 3 seasons now, Wissam Ben Yedder continue to score under the colors of ASM. The player, who counts today over 250 Ligue 1 matchesrealize its career best season statistically in the league with 21 goals scored. Indeed, the French international has gone from strength to strength over the course of the season, showing his last weeks a sparkling form linked to the strong comeback of Monaco. Scorer at 6 times in 7 gamesWissam Ben Yedder also benefits from the important return of his attacking partner, Kevin Vollandalso effective with 3 goals and 2 assists over the same period.
