Toulouse: “there is a parcel relay 2 minutes 30 from your home”, specifies one of the managers of Pickup, the subsidiary of La Poste
Asked by the increase in partnerships between parcel transport companies and businesses, Frédéric Muller is clear. For the Director of Network Animation at Pickup (La Poste), there is an advantage for Toulouse brands to participate in the parcel market.
What interests do Toulouse businesses have in becoming a partner of La Poste and its Pickup subsidiary?
Some merchants want to become more visible and grow their business. This partnership will generate new traffic, which will bring new customers. In particular through a trade that is not imposed on them very naturally. Once a customer comes to drop off a package and walks through the door, he becomes a prospect and can come and buy from the store. This is how we communicate around traders. We explain that there is a real interest for them to offer this service.
So it’s give and take. What are the benefits for you of working with them?
More and more people are expressing the need to have parcels delivered to a relay point. These local businesses then contribute to the management of our network and they will be able to play the role of parcel relay. A person looking for a package should have it as easily as possible. Our objective then is to have the nearest parcel relay points. We usually say that 95% of parcel relays are less than 10 minutes from your home. In Toulouse, it is rather a distance of 2.5 minutes by car. This whole strategy is implemented with geomarketing tools.
As a trader, are there criteria to be part of this partnership?
Yes. Location, location and location… More simplified, the place of import must respond to flows and that is the most important. Of course, there are other criteria such as storage area or time span. We are very attentive to the quality of service.
What are the salaries?
It’s not so much the number of packages that counts. If we take the remunerative aspect simply of the package, we are on an amount between 30 cents and 1 euro per package. Visibility and the act of purchase are more important. I would add that we are often opposed to the e-commerce of local shops. With these partnerships on a whole interest that people buy online and then go to the stores.
