Toulouse: Murder of “Néné”: “We took perpet'”
The verdict on appeal of the murder of Jean-Pierre Cazes, known as “Néné”, leaves a bitter taste in his family. The defendants received significantly reduced sentences compared to the first trial.
“My brother is no longer here. We, on a perpetual ‘take’. The family of Jean-Pierre Cazes, known as “Néné”, learned with pain of the verdict of the Assize Court of Appeal of the Tarn which has just judged in Albi the two murderers of this 48-year-old man, killed in December 2017 In Toulouse. Christopher Lefebvre and Steeve Fell were sentenced to 12 years and 13 years of criminal imprisonment.
During the first trial, in 2021, before the Assize Court of Haute-Garonne, they had been sentenced to 18 years in prison. On the day of the events, the victim, who had a penchant for drinking, found himself in a boiler room, on the twelfth floor of a building in the Minimes district with marginalized people. There, things had degenerated. “Néné” had received a shower of blows and his assailants had left him in agony until a cleaning lady made the macabre discovery.
The victim’s family now hopes to “turn the page”. The youngest of ten siblings, “Néné” had been a cook before joining Toulouse Métropole as a paving mason. Written as “valiant”, he takes care of his sick mother almost daily. For his sister, “he was absent from this trial and the court was only interested in the two defendants. Justice has certainly done its job, but we took life. He died in horrific circumstances. He died slowly. They left him shirtless on that roof in the middle of December. How can we forgive? »
The brothers and sisters of “Néné” did not attend the second trial. “Not to see them again. Too hard. The law no longer obliges civil parties to attend. Today, we are still the victims and again the victims. Murderers are valued because they cope well in prison and the years in prison decrease. We will never see our brother again. He is forgotten and our 89-year-old mother is still looking for the youngest…” That day, “Néné” died for… his Tisséo card.
