The Camerata turns 70: This is what the festival program of the Salzburg Chamber Orchestra looks like
For 70 years, the Camerata Salzburg has been aiming to become one of the best ensembles in the world. In fact, it has grown into one of the busiest chamber orchestras in the world. In the anniversary season, the core ensemble of the Salzburg Festival will also include collaborations with top-class soloists in its own subscription series: the British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the French pianist Hélène Grimaud and the Dutch violinist Janine will be performing in the newly opened Great Hall of the Mozarteum Jansen appear as soloists.
This became known when the anniversary program was presented. According to their own statements, President Wolfgang Daurer and Managing Director Andreas Bräunig see it as their immediate task not only to continue the legacy of the Camerata, but also to further develop its sound quality. The practice of chamber music ensemble playing without a conductor will continue to be cultivated with the two leading concertmasters Gregory Ahss and Giovanni Guzzo.
The anniversary season begins with the celebratory concert “70 years of Camerata Salzburg” on November 11th. Under the title “Past – Present – Future” it is also intended to mark the new beginning in the renovated Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation, which can be heard by 800, whose historical furnishings are currently being completely torn out and are to be renewed by the summer.
The monthly season concerts 2022/2023 are presented under the titles “Cantable Magic”, “Camerata pur”, “Hélène Grimaud” and “Music of the Future”. The New Year’s Eve and New Year’s concert has the motto “Fernsucht”. In February 2023, Hélène Grimaud will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor KV 466 and Robert Schumann’s A minor Concerto op.54. Janine Jansen’s special concert is planned for April 2023.
At the 2022 Salzburg Festival, the Camerata will be part of the traditional performance of Mozart’s Mass in C minor, then conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, Franz Welser-Möst will conduct Schubert’s Grosse Messe in E flat major.
The Vienna Konzerthaus has been a second home for the Salzburg Chamber Orchestra since 1959. Today and in the anniversary year, this tradition is becoming the tradition of international guest performances with famous and up-and-coming soloists in important concert halls, such as in Stockholm, Amsterdam and the Prinzregententheater in Munich. The Camerata also remains one of the main orchestras of the Salzburg Mozart Week. Elizabeth AumillerDetails on the program and tickets below www.camerata.at and the number +43 662/87310470
