Only 0.9% more places in nurseries in Bulgaria last year compared to 2020. At the end of the year in our country there are 833 independent nurseries and nursery groups in kindergartens (DG) with a total of 32,856 places in them, with an increase of 281 places, according to the National Statistical Institute (NSI). The data also includes private nurseries in our country.
The long-term trend is towards growth – compared to 2016 the places in the nurseries are increasing by 245 places, according to a reference in the NSI database.
In the cities there are 724 nurseries with 30,667 places, and in the villages – 109 with 2189 places. On an annual basis, the places in the crèches in the cities increased by 1.3%, and those in the villages decreased by 4.6%.

As of December 31, the security with a place for the country as a whole is 18.2%, as compared to 2020 it increases by 0.5 percentage points.
Provision of places in nurseriesand
In the territorial aspects of the data on the provision of places in children’s places, it is estimated that in all districts they are confirmed, and only in three districts (Vidin, Montana and Smolyan) they decrease.
The highest is the provision with places in nurseries in the districts of Gabrovo (29.5%), Pleven (25.1%) and Blagoevgrad (23.9%), and the lowest – in Pazardzhik (9.5%) and Sliven (10.4%). In Sofia, the provision of seats is almost unchanged, as compared to 2020 it increased by 0.1 percentage points.
In 2021, 27,953 children were admitted to nurseries, which is 2,238, or 8.7%, more than in 2020.
At the end of the year, 29,724 children were raised and educated in crèches, of which 15,347 were boys and 14,377 girls. Compared to 2020, at the end of 2021, the number of children in crèches increased by 486, or by 1.7%.

At the end of 2021, the total number of children raised in crèches for the page is 16.5%. Compared to 2020, its value increases by 0.6 percentage points. The highest indicator is for the districts of Gabrovo (23.1%), Pleven (20.7%) and Shumen (20%).
Reach of children in crèches
The distribution of children raised in crèches over time has remained unchanged over the years. The largest is the carrier share of children under two years of age – 81.7%, and the smallest – of children under 1 year – 0.1%.
At the end of the year, 7,769 medical and other specialists who raise, educate and train children work in nurseries under the main employment contract. There are 3,651 medical specialists in health care, 93.2% of whom are nurses, according to the NSI.
Compared to 2015, the number of nurses and midwives decreased by 199, but the number of non-medical staff increased from 3,718 to 4,113.
