In danger, this animal protection association calls for donations to Monaco
Once again, in a post posted on Facebook, Céline Gabrielli calls for help, hoping that the sounding board of social networks will spark an unprecedented outpouring of generosity. His Monegasque association, “Save, protect, support animals” (SpSA), is in financial difficulty, for lack of sufficient donations, especially on the French side. And the amount of unpaid veterinarians, estimated at 7,500 euros, jeopardizes this entity and its volunteer employees.
“Veterinary care is our main item of expenditure. In 2021 alone, this represents 22,000 euros, confides the president of the association. The more one is known, the more one supports, the more the bills accumulate. We have emergency calls for rescues, we have abandoned, injured animals that we must treat before finding them a foster family. (read opposite). We also have what are called retirement baskets. »
In summary: SpSA covers the veterinary costs of an animal, of which it knows that the end is near, until its last breath with the foster family. “It is not in our ethics to refuse treatment. We will do everything for the animal.” she insists.
2350 euros recognized
While waiting for possible subsidies from the princely government – a file is being put together – the president and certain members of the association are drawing on their personal funds.
But until when ? For now, after this call for online donations, only 2,350 euros have been raised from generous souls. “The association is in danger. Veterinarians will now prefer to refuse the animals that we will take away”, she fears. This only shifts the burden to other animal protection associations on the Riviera.
Three examples of support
Yet again, however, the SpSA had demonstrated its interest. “We came to the aid of a wandering kitten who was carried on a litter. During a difficult delivery, I had to take out the last kitten myself. Alone in nature, she would not have survived, neither would the little onessays Melyna, secretary of the association. There are also these eight kittens, obtained from coryza and ringworm. They were placed in solitary confinement and treated for six weeks. They have since been adopted. We also took in Bambi, a dog whose owner died in her apartment. He was an unfortunate dog, who had never known anything but the inside of a dwelling. He had double hip dysplasia. We took charge of the operation, which was heavy. »
Examples of abandonment, abuse, sordid stories are unfortunately legion. “Please help us in our fight. Today, for them, we need your help more than ever.”reproduces Celine Gabrielli.
