Protests in the country: Bulgaria must be a peacemaker. A mother does not give a weapon to her younger child Society News from Bulgaria and the World
Demonstrations of non-interference in the war in Ukraine were held in three major Bulgarian cities – Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, as well as other settlements within the framework of the “All-Bulgarian March for Peace and Neutrality” initiative.
Hundreds of citizens in the capital gathered on the National Assembly Square, where the march for peace and neutrality began with drums and bagpipes. Almost every participant waved the Bulgarian tricolor. The monument to Tsar Osvoboditel was also covered with the Bulgarian flag, BNR reported.
The citizens categorically declared that Bulgaria should not be a party to the military conflict in Ukraine, not to give weapons or military aid in Kyiv.
According to the demonstrators, Bulgaria should be a peacemaker – it has given Christianity to both Russia and Ukraine. She is a mother in both Russia and Ukraine. Only a country that neutralizes can see objectively and understand both sides of the conflict. “A mother does not give a weapon to her younger child, when the two children fight, she tears them apart,” a protester said in the square.
The case of sending military aid to Kyiv is currently being discussed by the ruling coalition. And another counter-protest is scheduled for tomorrow, which will urge lawmakers to decide to provide weapons to Ukraine.
