La Rochelle waterfall in Toulouse 23/16
Bad operation for Stade Rochelais. Defeated in Toulouse on Saturday evening 23 to 16, the Maritimes leave the group of the first six and there are only two championship days left.
New confrontation between Toulouse and La Rochelle and another defeat for Stade Rochelais. The Maritimes lost 23-16 on Saturday night in a bubbling Stadium. It is now Stade Toulousain who occupies sixth place in the standings synonymous with access to the final stages. La Rochelle is relegated to seventh place two days before the end of the championship.
The Rochelais had however started the meeting well with a try from Brice Dulin in the fourth minute which caught Toulouse and the Stadium cold. But at Stade Toulousain there is the best rugby player in the world and Antoine Dupont responded immediately on a blocked clearance.
A slightly crazy start to the match, but above all a great intensity between the two teams. Toulouse had to win to find the top 6 and La Rochelle wanted to stay there. This is what Jonathan Danty, the three-quarter center of La Rochelle explained to our colleagues from Canal plus at the end of the meeting: “We came to win this match, but Toulouse made us thwart. We have two games left to continue dreaming of the final stages.”
La Rochelle made too many mistakes at the end of the game to hope to win and despite the contribution of a powerful bench, had to bow.
There are two Top 14 matches left to regain one of the top six places. On May 21, Stade Rochelais will receive Stade Français, then move to Lyon on June 5. Ronan O’Gara’s men will have to play perfect games to keep dreaming.
