Weddings in Portugal quadrupled – Society – RTP Madeira
The month with the most weddings was March, with 2,065, while February registered 1,707 marriages and in January there were 1,485.
There are about five times more marriages registered in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, which registered a total of 1,435 marriages.
In 2021, the month of January registered 814 marriages, in February there were 177 and in March 444.
Statistical data must be read taking into account the successive states of emergency enacted in Portugal since March 18, 2020, because of the covid-1 disease pandemic.
The pandemic forced the application of measures of “restraint that had an impact on the lives of citizens, from the outset mobility, the social” and, therefore, “statistical data” must be “read in this context”, explains the INE.
The number of marriages performed in 2020 in Portugal decreased by 4.1% (18,902) compared to 2019 (33,272 April the month), with never fewer marriages.

The second month with the fewest marriages was May, with 745, and March was third, with 1,035 marriages.
