Stoffel Vandoorne wins the Monaco ePrix and takes command of the general standings
(Belga) Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) won the sixth round of the Formula E world championship on Saturday in Monaco. This is the first victory of the season for the 30-year-old Courtraisien, the third of his career in the formula reserved for electric cars. It is synonymous with first place in the general classification.
Vandoorne, who mastered his energy perfectly, beat New Zealander Mitch Evans (Jaguar), winner of the last two rounds in Rome on April 9 and 10, and Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah). Starting in 4th position, the former F1 driver won his first success of the season, the third of his career in FE after those acquired in Berlin (2020) and Rome (2021). “It’s a special feeling because it’s the best race you can win as a driver,” said the Belgian in the flash interview at the finish. In the standings, Vandoorne now has 81 points and is ahead of Vergne (75), Evans (72) and the Dutchman Robin Frijns (71), 4th on Saturday. The 7th and 8th rounds of the world championship will be held on May 14 and 15 on the tarmac of Tempelhof airport in Berlin. The season, amputated from the meeting in Vancouver scheduled for July 2, will be punctuated in Seoul. The South Korean capital will host the last two courses on August 13 and 14. (Belgian)
