SBM employees demand higher wages in Monaco
“Since 2015 we have been asking for a decent salary given our working conditions – nights, weekends, public holidays – which are difficult. And then, faced with the current surge in fuel prices, when you start and you earn 1,500 euros, it became impossible after the 10th of the month, explains Mickaël Rosellini, General Secretary of the SBM Syndicat. We had a meeting with the management on Wednesday, but we were told that there was no budget. Today, however, the crisis is over and the economic situation has returned to normal. The hotels are full, the restaurants too. We believe that there are no valid reasons not to listen to us.”
A new action for the Grand Prix?
“We are therefore disengaging. In the days which were to be joined by our colleagues in the hotel industry. And an action during the period of the Grand Prix will perhaps be likely.”
For its part, by press release, the SBM announced last night that it deplored this action: “Especially since regular meetings are held with the representatives of the unions concerned, who have been reassured on several occasions, and in particular again on Wednesday morning, about the continuation of discussions relating to their demands, both for those concerning the operational part, than for working conditions or remuneration.
The SBM recalls the difficult period it has gone through, socially and economically. However, social dialogue has been maintained and several subjects and projects are being studied to allow employees to find peace of mind.
It should also be remembered that SBM employees benefit from particularly favorable contractual provisions with regard to changes in remuneration. Thus, all of the Group’s employees benefit from the regular indexation of their salaries, based on the positive trend of the INSEE consumer price index.
Consequently, in particular for the trades concerned today, wages will increase by more than 2% from 1uh April. This provision, which is socially very advantageous, follows the curve of inflation and guarantees employees that their purchasing power will be maintained.
In conclusion, this movement comes at a time when substantive social work has already been well done and the Company wishes to affirm its incomprehension in the face of this position, which is contrary to recent discussions between the parties.
