Dream Theater, it’s going to take your breath away at the Zénith de Toulouse!
The pioneers of progressive metal will stop this Tuesday, May 3 at the Zénith de Toulouse, one of the four stages of their hexagonal tour, to defend their 15th album “A View From The Top Of The World”.
On April 4, the group’s Twitter posted an enthusiastic message: “This is insane! Our song The Alien just won Best Metal Performance at the Grammy Awards. To all Dream Theater fans around the world, you rock, we love you, this award is for you! The recognition by the Victoires de la Musique American version is important for this group from New York born in the mid-1980s under the name of Majesty. James LaBrie (vocals), John Petrucci (guitar), Jordan Rudess (keyboard), John Myung (bass) and Mike Mangini (drums) savor their pleasure, those who work in a musical genre resolutely apart like the precise Dominique Dupuis, the he Toulouse author of the work “Prog Rock en 150 figures”: “It was in September 1985 that guitarist John Petrucci met drummer Mike Portnoy during their musical studies at Berkeley. Their childhood friend, bassist John Myung joined them and they took their first steps by covering Iron Maiden. In 1989, after changing its name to Dream Theater, the group released its first album in 1989. With the arrival of James LaBrie as singer a year earlier, the group took shape and greatly contributed to the development of progressive metal. »
Big sons and commitment
Since then, the group has welcomed Jordan Ruddess (keyboards) in 1999 and experienced the departure of Mike Portnoy in 2010, and Dominique Dupuis explains: “The sound of the group is completely structured with the arrival of Ruddess and Petrucci then becomes sole master on board and the sound of the group evolves slightly with a less present rhythm. The group then went on to albums and tours from the 1990s onwards.” Experimenting with the crossing of musical universes, even daring to play rock opera with “The Astonishing” in 2015 and taking a stand on current topics such as the condition of women and saving the planet, Dream Theater has found its place in the panorama of progressive metal. An experience to live in concert…
