The initial estimates are confirmed that the voice of April 6 at the Papanikolaou hospital, in Thessaloniki, was caused by a cigarette.
This is at least clear, according to information, from the report prepared by an independent expert regarding the fire that broke out on April 6 in a ward of the 2nd Pulmonary / Covid Clinic of the hospital, which resulted in the death of two patients of the hospital.
According to the relevant report, the fire started when someone started a fire inside the wing. In fact, the flames engulfed him as a result of which he took off the clothes he was wearing and threw them to another patient inside the ward.
However, due to the oxygen present inside the chamber, the fire quickly became large. The pulmonologist of the hospital, Stavros Tryfon, had described the dramatic moments in which he was an eyewitness.
“At 8:50 a nurse called me that a man was at the door and it was called! I immediately grabbed a fire extinguisher and extinguished the fire that was burning the man. An interlocutor told him that he heard a noise like an explosion. Then I saw a second man burning. “I took a second fire extinguisher and extinguished it”, noted Mr. Tryfon.
Mr. Tryfon in his statements to journalists referred to the moments that followed in the Second Pulmonology immediately after the occurrence of the fire. “The technique cut off the oxygen supply so we would not get worse. “The electricity also fell, and so nursing staff and doctors were trapped in their offices by the thick smoke”, he described characteristically. The 79-year-old who was found dead was evacuated, said Mr. Tryfon.
