A fund for Florence? A valid idea – Chronicle

It is not clear why having to have that complicated name, World Heritage Pass. Would it be an insult to elegance if we simply called it Per Firenze? Of this fund, which should help the municipality to compensate in part or in whole the 50 million it needs every year to maintain such a beautiful and unique one, it has been understood so far what it should not be but it is not yet clear what and how it must be. To begin with, Florence should not address tourists – and why not, Florentines too – like a beggar. These are times when, unfortunately, there are already too many plates for offers on the street. At the same time it doesn’t have to seem like a request exclusive to the rich and the motivation is simple to understand. Then it was said that the fund is intended for the care of the most valuable areas of the historic center that are under UNESCO protection and so when a tourist enters one of these areas he should be reached by a signal on his smartphone also to create a sort of membership. However, the aim is too complicated and not very useful if not harmful in times when there are already too many borders. An entry and exit from the various Unesco areas that would just drive the phone and the user crazy. On the contrary, it seems interesting and not capacious the possibility for those who join to access some services such as the use of a more powerful wi-fi. And it is not the case to cry out to the scandal to be guilty of dividing tourists of Serie A and B. It ‘s nonsense. Always avoid the usual card, perhaps with a lily, which is added to the other thousands that fill our pockets. In the end what remains? There remains the idea of an interesting initiative, which has no equal in the world and therefore it is understandable that it is not easy to think correctly. But the attention it has aroused tells us that it should not be abandoned. Good ideas and simplicity are needed, that is, ease of being understood. We need and membership, which is a good cause. Without too many quibbles about who should be the benefactors, if Russian or American, if rich or poor, if Italian or foreign. We learn from the practical sense of the Milanese that when they wanted to build the Duomo they turned to the faithful and there was no shortage of offers. Including those of women of ill repute, who needed God more than others and were the most generous. The Church did not make too many distinctions. Rightly.
