They thwarted an attempt to smuggle 156 migrants into Bulgaria
Turkish authorities on the protection of the Turkish-Bulgarian border Kirklareli have visited an attempt by a group of 156 migrants to cross into Bulgaria illegally.
Teams of the Turkish gendarmerie, which guards the area of the Turkish-Bulgarian border near Kirklareli, have captured a group of 156 migrants trying to cross the border illegally.
Six people have also been detained for organizing a channel for illegal human trafficking, BTA reported.
On a signal that in the area of the villages Panar Hisar and Kofchaz in recent days have been blocked many migrants, teams of the gendarmerie with an entrepreneurial action, which were the entrances and exits to the villages.
A group of migrants tried to escape into the forest, but motorized soldiers blocked their way and detained them.
A total of 156 illegal migrants were detained during the operation. Of these, 118 are from Afghanistan and 38 are Syrians. All had irregular documents. They were transported from Istanbul by bus to the border area.
The detainees were also 6 people who were found to have organized the group’s trip to the border to relocate migrants to Bulgaria. They will be prosecuted for human trafficking.
After their identities were established, the migrants were handed over to the Pehlivankoy Migrant Return Center.
