Thessaloniki: A pocket park is being created in the extension of Kalamaria
The project for the construction of the pocket park, with an area of 1053.33 sq.m., on Anagnostopoulou, Aigyptiadis and Atalantis streets in the area of Agios Ioannis Kalamaria, was signed today with the contractor.
It is a green area, which has a helical path in the center, paved with cobblestones on a water-permeable substrate, which has the appropriate slope for the safe use of a wheelchair, and is dictated by the large elevation difference of the space, between Aigyptiadis and Atalantis streets. This route is defined on both sides by reinforced concrete, which act as an auxiliary upgrade.
The aim of this project is the urban utilization of the green space for planting and recreation, the promotion and integration of the existing sidewalks in the free common areas, intended mainly for pedestrians, the improvement of their functionality, the creation of a small gathering and recreation area neighborhood scale, and the smooth movement of pedestrians and the disabled on the sidewalks and inside the green space. At the same time, the building block is being upgraded, as sidewalks will be created, which do not exist at the moment. “Our goal is to create green corners in Kalamaria, welcoming to all residents and women. With proper planning and work we achieve it “, said the Mayor of Kalamaria, Giannis Dardamanelis.
The construction of the park, budget 190,314.73 euroswhich is financed by the Region of Central Macedonia, has a schedule of seven months and does not give much breath to the inhabitants of the area.
