It is planned to accept injured Ukrainians to Lithuania: it would not cost anything for these patients
NATO is trying to take over coordination
So far, wounded soldiers or civilians from Ukraine are not being treated in Lithuania, but preparations are underway. According to Grebenkovienė, NATO is trying to take over the coordination of the treatment of wounded soldiers so that the whole process can run smoothly.
According to the Chancellor, there is a trauma cluster hospital in Lithuania, there are 14 of them in total. Up to 400 wounded soldiers could be treated at the same time. Rehabilitation of soldiers after treatment is also very important.
“It simply came to our notice then. We have about 28 institutions that offer a thousand places for treatment services. We are ready and waiting for centralized processes to come together. Until the health care system of Ukraine puts them in order, it is a very long time for both us and the whole of Europe to come together and see how everything will work when there is a real need to take over the troops, ”J. Grebenkovienė told LNK.
Lithuanian health systems would not be disrupted
A number of civilians checked out of Ukraine are being treated in Polish hospitals.
“Poland is doing very well and there are really not many requests to transfer patients from them to other countries,” said the SAM chancellor.
According to J. Grebenkovienė, the admission of Ukrainians to Lithuanian hospitals would not stop the scheduled services for our citizens, because the number of admissions is calculated so as not to interfere with our health system.
“If we see that there is a great need to accept soldiers and civilians, we will have to show solidarity with other European countries,” LNK told the country.
Treatment for Ukrainians would be free of charge – it would be paid for from the Lithuanian budget. According to the chancellor, all countries treating Ukrainians do so from their own budgets.
J. Grebenkovienė said that groups of Lithuanian medics who left for Ukraine had left Kyjiv and are now in other hospitals where there was more work. It is planned that these two medical teams in the cities where they are now will remain until the end of the mission.
However, wounded soldiers in Ukraine are treated only in military hospitals, so Lithuanian medics cannot treat them. Lithuanian medics treat wounded civilians – according to the chancellor, they have to consult, suture, operate and provide scheduled services.
