Ex-Salzburg coach Roger Schmidt agrees with Benfica Lisbon – football
Lisbon – Wednesday 27/04/2022 at 15:00
Coach Roger Schmidt will take care of Benfica Lisbon in the future.
As Portugal’s record champions announced on Wednesday, a performance agreement had been reached. Former Salzburg champion-maker Schmidt, who is still coaching PSV Eindhoven this season, will replace Nelson Verissimo, who in turn succeeded the liberated Jorge Jesus in December.
Benfica is currently only third in the Portuguese championship, but reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they had to beat Liverpool. In addition, the U19s secured the Youth League title just the day before yesterday with a 6-0 triumph – against RB Salzburg of all places.
With Valentino Lazaro, there is also an Austrian team player in the “Adler” squad. The winger was on loan from Inter Milan until the summer. In the current championship, Lazaro has made 16 appearances so far. Lazaro once drove together with Schmidt near Salzburg.
