Zandvoort natural nature permit, Grand Prix of the Netherlands can continue
Circuit Zandvoort may retain the necessary nature permit, the judge has ruled. As a result, the Grand Prix of the Netherlands can continue on September 4.
Nature organizations had filed a case against Zandvoort because of the nitrogen emissions. The emissions 1 are namely too high for the protected nature reserve, the de Nat protected nature reserve, the de Nat protected nature reserve 2000 zone, where the circuit is located. Mobilization for the Environment (MOB) and other nature organizations therefore went to court.
The court in Haarlem rules on the basis of an investigation that the nature permit of the circuit is legitimate justice by the Provincial Executive of North Holland. consistently the circuit requires permission and the Grand Prix of the Netherlands, which will take place on September 4, will continue as usual. The court rules that the permit does not lead to more nitrogen deposition, can be read in a statement from the court of Haarlem.

“The court has established that in the old situation the circuit area may be used all year round for car and motor sports activities and other major events, including Formula 1,” the statement reads. declaration† “In the illegal permit, the use of the number of circuits is limited to one day. An emission ceiling is also included in the permit; this was not the case in the old situation.”
“The court therefore concluded that the nitrogen deposition and emission through the forthcoming consent will be less ever permitted. Because site permits do not lead to an increased nitrogen position, it is impossible that the use and performance of work on the circuit will have significant consequences for Natura 2000.”
Last year there was also summary proceedings from MOB just before the Grand Prix, date there will be much more nitrogen emissions at the Formula 1 event than was indicated by the organization. That case was won by the circuit. The judge wanted to wait for the extra investigation into the prospects and in the meantime let the balance of interests turn out in favor of Circuit Zandvoort. This is because not going ahead with the race would lead to ‘major damage’ and ‘possibly the bankruptcy of Circuit Zandvoort’.
