The 21st edition of Handisport en fête took place this weekend at Place du Capitole.
The rain came to play spoilsport this weekend on the Place du Capitole for the last day of the 21st edition of Handisport en fête which ended earlier than expected at 1:30 p.m. sound laser rifle, boccia, climbing, golf, able-bodied and disabled were able to try out multiple disciplines throughout the morning. “Our goal is to introduce disabled people to sport to all audiences, and not just people with disabilities,” explains Bernard Darrées, president of the Comité Régional Handisport Occitanie. Handisport is sport in its own right and as Jérôme Bernard testifies, “the view of disability has evolved a lot today”. Amputated in childhood with an arm and legs, he practices blade racing and is the initiator of the Hopper project, for blade courses accessible to all. During this 2022 edition, Handisport en fête innovated with the creation of an inter-company challenge and a trophy that will be awarded each year. Emphasis was also placed on fencing in Athens thanks to initiations and a demonstration with David Maillard, team epee champion at the 2004 Paralympic Games. brilliantly illustrates in the biggest competitions, as in 2021 at the Tokyo Paralympic Games with Maxime Valet” he underlines.
