Toulouse. “Action Meerkat” a device for young people in suffering –
“Action Suricate” is a Toulouse scheme of young volunteers who work to prevent psychological or psychosocial suffering and for the psychological well-being of their peers.
This project was initiated by the Town Hall in 2021 to respond to issues, particularly acute in the context of the health crisis, of psychological well-being and mental health among young people.
These are peer-to-peer street actions. Young workers trained in listening and in mental health issues meet other young people in public spaces in the city center and on university campuses. The psychologist in charge of the system trains these young volunteers and accompanies them during all their interventions.
Matching the ages and places sought makes it possible to open up discussion, to offer listening, to express resentment more easily, to discuss places of help and to act to prevent psychological or psychosocial suffering.
The system is piloted by the Regional Association for Prevention and Assistance in the Face of Dependencies and Exclusions (ARPADE) and the Town Hall of Toulouse. Funded by ARS Occitanie and the Town Hall, it mobilizes a group of Toulouse associations: Avenir santé, Actup Sud-Ouest, LMDE, Crous de Toulouse Occitanie, Toulouse Interuniversity Service for Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion (SIMPPS) and the Toulouse Council for Student Life in Toulouse.
