The action artist Thomas Baumgärtel, known as a banana sprayer, has immortalized Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on a strict protest poster – in prison clothes. The XXL banner adorns a house wall in downtown Cologne and is clearly visible from afar.
Putin is wearing a black and white striped top that is familiar from prisoners. The pun “Put in prison” can be read on his chest, which in turn refers to the surname of the Kremlin boss, but on the other hand means something like “Put him in prison”. A pointy hat in the shape of a banana can be seen on the head – a reference to the author. Several media reported.
Baumgärtel became known as the so-called banana sprayer. The yellow fruit is a central motif in the graffiti artist’s work. Among other things, he caused a stir with a caricature of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which showed a banana in his buttocks.
The Putin picture is a statement, said Baumgärtel on Monday. The democracy movement in Ukraine needs full solidarity against a “murderer and criminal”. The poster – an impressive ten meters high – was installed on Sunday.
