Toulouse: why the Stadium cannot be completely full for TFC and Stade Toulousain matches
The Stadium of Toulouse is amputated by more than 2000 places currently, for renovation works. This does not prevent the TFC and Stade Toulousain from flourishing there.
But why does the Stadium of Toulouse not give its full measure, in this period of decisive matches? For supporters of Toulouse Football Club, well ahead of Ligue 2, the question arises. “On April 2, for the reception of Paris FC, we were told a sold-out match, and then 28,000 spectators,” notes a regular.
Seat sealing and replacement work
Information taken from Toulouse Métropole, several types of work are underway at the Stadium. Those who impact the public gauge are those who are consistent in redoing the sealing of the north balcony, and in changing all the seats in this area, to make them identical to those installed in 2016 for the European Championship of football. This work started on March 15. “The maximum capacity of the Stadium was 33,150 people before the works,” noted a spokesperson for the metropolis.
130 places less at the end of the works
The work is taking place in three phases, and in three distinct areas of the Stadium. In zone 1, 1,023 places are affected by the work, and therefore inaccessible to the public, from March 15 to May 10. In zone 2, 1,029 places are affected by the work, from April 11 to June 7. Currently therefore, and until June 7, the accessible gauge of the Stadium stands at 31,098 places. Finally, in zone 3, 1,120 places will be affected by the works, from May 30 to July 18.
Since the beginning of work in zone 1 of the Stadium, on March 15 and until June 7, the capacity of the Stadium is 31,098 places. This gauge remains stable until the end of the TFC sports season, since zone 3 will not start until the end of May.
6.3 million euros invested by Toulouse Métropole for the 2023 World Cup
“At the end of the works, the Stadium gauge will be 33,020 places for the public, these works causing us to lose 130 places on the overall gauge. The Stadium will have a new maximum capacity for the resumption of the TFC championship, ”says Toulouse Métropole.
In total, between now and the 2023 Rugby World Cup (September 8 – October 28, 2023), Toulouse Métropole will invest 6.3 million euros to “upgrade” the enclosure: 1.2 million euros for lawn light therapy, €1.7 million for giant screens and advertising banners, €250,000 for widening the lawn and €200,000 for rolling out the Wi-Fi network. More than one million euros will be devoted to events and the “Rugby Village”, and 1.6 million euros to “support the organization in its missions of general interest”.
