Salzburg 0-6 Benfica Lisbon: Portuguese goal festival in the final | UEFA Youth League
It’s been a one-way affair from the start and Benfica can look forward to a well-deserved UEFA Youth League triumph.
Salzburg could never call up their own potential and were literally overwhelmed in the second half.
Game in brief: Benfica retaliate for 2017
After three defeats in the Youth League finals, Benfica had big plans and lost control like the fire brigade.
Salzburg’s defense hadn’t really realized that the game was about to kick off when Benfica appeared in the penalty area. In the second minute, Martim Neto rejected the foundation for a Portuguese party evening with a well-considered shot in the far corner.
It was a one-way affair for the first 30 minutes and Henrique Araújo gave Benfica a 2-0 lead early on. Salzburg were able to set a few accents towards the end of the first half, but that was it.
After the break, Benfica played themselves in a frenzy. Cher N’Dour scored the third early, converting a deflected Pedro Santos cross before Henrique Araújo completed a stunning counterattack to make it 4-0. Luis Semedo was also on the scoresheet and it was Henrique Araújo who scored the final point, converting a penalty kick to set up a hat-trick.
