Dainius Kreivys, the Minister of Energy, announced that he would invest 57 megawatts in the park next to the plant, which will supply electricity, after a meeting with Orlen’s manager Daniel Obajtek at a press conference in Vilnius on Monday.
D. Obajtek assured that permits for the object have been obtained. Vjo Park will be located next to the factory.
The head of the Orlen concern also confirmed that the company is thinking of investing in wind power plants not only onshore but also offshore.
In cooperation with the Government of Lithuania, we are waiting for a tender license for the construction of a wind farm in the Baltic Sea, D. Obajtek said at a press conference.
We are also optimistic about other competitions and licenses, the distribution of which in Lithuania in 2024 and 2025, he added.
The head of Orlen stated that he did not mind the conditions of the auction of the first wind farm in the Baltic Sea being held in Lithuania, as well as the legislation related to the development of such a park.
We have conditions, and each analysis has its own vision of how it seeks to experience and grow or select partners, or attracts investment from other countries, said Obajtek when asked if Orlen is eligible for a future auction, which some foreign investors say , the eu is forming a place for the market.
D. Kreivys stated that with the adoption of the amendments to the laws necessary for the development of the wind farm in the Baltic Sea, such claims no longer existed.
I want to deny the smooth ideas that the bet was made. (…) Discussions have been going on for more than half a year and there was probably no more such talk when the law was adopted, said the Minister of Energy.
Our construction and the model according to which we will conduct the tender are a reflection of the latest trends, when there is a possibility that even the developer will learn from the developer, but the developer will learn from the state, added D. Kreivys.
It has already been announced that Orlen and Orlen Lithuania intend to participate in the first auction of the Lithuanian wind farm in the Baltic Sea.
The Danish renewable energy company Orsted, the Lithuanian Ignitis Group and the Achema Group, the German RWE company RWE Renewables and the joint venture Green Genius and the largest private Polish energy company Polenergia intend to establish a joint venture.
At the end of March, the Seimas adopted several amendments to the law approving the development of wind farms in the Baltic Sea, as well as setting higher targets for the production of energy from renewable sources.
The Ministry of Energy plans to hold the first wind farm in the Baltic Sea in 2023, and the winners will be selected in early 2024. The wind farm is scheduled to start operating around 2030, reaching 700 megawatts (MW).
