The French language in all its and its relevance around the world. This is what the festival of French languages offers, organized by the Normandy-Rouen National Drama Center from Monday 25 to Saturday 30 April 2022, at Rouen and at Petit-Quevilly (Seine-Maritime). On the program: reading, theatre, music… at the Théâtre des Deux Rives, at the Théâtre de la Foudre at the #LaboVictorHugo. It’s free, by reservation.
French around the world
The proposals are all new creations, some of which will then live elsewhere. Each evening takes place in two parts, with first a short performance, then another more important. From Monday to Thursday, it happens at #LaboVictorHugo then at the Théâtre des Deux Rives. Friday and Saturday, it will be at the Théâtre de la Foudre.
This year, the guest of honor is the young Haitian author, poet and novelist Jean D’Amérique, winner of the 2021 RFI Theater Prize, with his play opera dust. His text will be voiced on both evenings in Queville, by the director Frédéric Fisbach. Also to be discovered: a stage in the next creation of the author and director Eva Doumbia, an encounter with the Cameroonian Marcelle Sandrine Bengono, texts by the playwright students of the École du Nord (in Lille)…
A transdisciplinary festival
“This transdisciplinary festival assesses the state of contemporary writing for theater in French in the world,” underlines Ronan Chéneau, curator of the festival, permanent author at the CDN in Rouen. A language spoken and written from Quebec to Cameroon, which for the French public can be both obviously familiar but also surprising, depending on the differences from one country to another. »
This festival is the result of a partnership with the Prix RFI Théâtre, whose vocation is to promote contemporary French-speaking dramatic writing from the south.
